Introduction to Purple Kush

Purple Kush is a pure indica cannabis strain known far and wide for its powerful, relaxing and pain-relieving qualities. It’s also known as ‘Purple Hindu Kush’, due to its genetics. High Times Magazine ranked Purple Kush as one of the top 10 most powerful strains in the world in 2016.  With its euphoric and uplifting nature, and eye-catching purple colours, it’s no wonder that Purple Kush is known as a classic and very favourite strain of cannabis consumers the world over. Keep reading to find out more about why it’s so adored!

Where Does Purple Kush Come From?

Purple Kush was created by crossing Hindu Kush with Purple Afghani, two powerful South-Central Asian indica landrace strains. However, it originated in Oakland, California, where it grew to become a very popular choice among West Coast stoners.  The THC level of Purple Kush flower is usually between 17-27%, depending on many factors, such as the growing conditions and experience level of the grower.  Purple Kush plants grow bushy and wide rather than tall, and take about 8 weeks to flower before they are ready for harvest.

What Does Purple Kush Look, Smell & Taste Like?

The buds of a Purple Kush plant are usually small to medium sized, in shades of green and purple, with bright orange pistils (the little hairs that cover the nug). Growers can bring out Purple Kush’s trademark purple colour more by exposing the plants to cold temperatures just before harvest.  The scent of Purple Kush is earthy and musky at first, reminiscent of sandalwood, then it has a fruity scent layer of sugary grapes. This delicious grape essence also comes through in the thick, hashy flavour of the smoke, which comes from its Purple Afghani parent strain.
